Do you have some unwanted pounds you’d like to lose? Would you like to work on slimming down your waistline? Do you need accountability in coming to Maine Pines to exercise? If you answered “yes” to any of the above, then the Winter Fit Buddy Challenge is just what you need.
How does it work? You and a buddy will commit to a twelve week period of getting fit and healthy. The challenge kicks off January 9th and ends April 10th. There are three main categories in which to win a substantial cash prize. Percentage of Weight Lost, Most Inches Lost, and Club Participation. For those teams interested in competing in the Weight Lost and Inches Lost categories, mandatory weigh-ins and measurements will be taken throughout the twelve week challenge.
For those teams interested in competing in the Club Participation category, there will be clipboards in all main areas of the club (aerobics studio, weight room, cardio room, yoga studio, and outside the tennis courts). Every time you participate in a class, cardio or weight session or tennis, you will write your name and date on the sheet provided. The sheets will be collected weekly and points tallied. Five points will be awarded to each team member who participates in at least THREE separate activities. Activites are as follows: aerobics; Zumba; spinning; personal training; weight room; cardio room; tennis; and yoga. TWO extra points will be awarded for each activity exceeding the standard three activities (example: If you participate in Zumba, personal training, tennis, cardio room and weight room in the one week period, you will be awarded SEVEN points). Three aerobics classes or three tennis matches per week do not count as separate activities. Extra points will be awarded throughout the duration of the challenge for special events.
Do I have to be a member to participate? No, you don’t need to be a member to join the Winter Fit Buddy Challenge. Non-members pay the same price as members ($20 entry fee), and can participate in the master classes and special events held throughout the twelve week challenge.
I’m new to the area and I want to sign up, but I don’t have a buddy! What should I do? Don’t worry! Leave your name and contact information with the front desk and we will do the matchmaking for you.
Why doesn’t my $20 entry fee cover the cost of the t-shirt? Good question. Bottom line is the cold, hard cash we want to award you at the end of the challenge. Your entire $20 entry fee goes directly to the prize pot. The more teams, the more cash will be awarded. Speaking of shirts, have you had a good look at them? They are long-sleeved, dri-fit shirts with the 2010 Winter Fit Buddy Challenge logo. You can purchase your shirt at the front desk for $22. We will be placing another order, so if there is a particular size you would like that we do not have in stock, please let the front desk know. If you are a female who normally wears a small or medium, the Youth L and XL fit nicely, though the sleeves are on the shorter side.
What, exactly, is a “Master Class”? A Master Classes at Maine Pines is like a Whitman’s Sampler, but in exercise form. We run through a circuit which includes 12 minute segments of spinning, step aerobics, weights and ab work. It’s fast. It’s fun. It’s a full body workout guaranteed to make sweat.
I’m nervous about having my weight and measurements done. What can I expect? If you’ve never gone through this process before, it can be intimidating. The entire process will take no longer than five minutes. Rest assured, all weight and measurements recorded will be done discreetly and the numbers recorded will be confidential.
So, when are the weigh-ins and measurements taken? The first mandatory weigh in and/or measurements will be taken January 2nd through January 9th. The second optional weigh in and/or measurements will be taken February 20th through February 27th. The third and final mandatory weigh in and/or measurements will be taken April 3rd through April 9th. Please contact Terry Cockburn through the front desk or e-mail (balanceisbest@yahoo.com) to schedule an appointment.
