It was 1999 when I took my very first yoga class
and
ever since that class yoga has been a part of
my life.
I spent the first 12 years practicing many different
types of yoga and being a student learning everything
I could about this beautiful practice. The
deep stretches and long silences of the Yin practice
are very close to my heart. I have studied under the teachings of Sarah Powers and Paul Grilley and my future holds both Vinyasa and Prenatal Teacher Trainings. |

The ancient yogis said you're really not ready to
get
the most out
of yoga until your 50s. I qualified
for
that status when I started
yoga a few years
ago, becoming so interested that in 2005 I
completed
the teacher certification program at the Kripalu
Center for
Yoga and Health (Lenox, MA). Since then
I've been teaching yoga in
the Brunswick area at
several local studios, Merrymeeting Adult Ed,
Bowdoin College,
and
DownEast Energy. love
exploring, practicing,
and teaching different styles
of yoga, from gentle
Kripalu to the more vigorous
vinyasa flows of Baron Baptiste and Bryan
Kest.
My objective is always to help students make any
style of yoga their own and to share the best that
yoga offers: the
gift of vitality and a youthful feeling
that transcends age.

My journey into yoga started when I was in my
50s.
In 2002 I completed my
teacher training at
the
Kripalu Yoga Center. I have been teaching
yoga
ever
since. I am also certified to teach
Stress Management, Yoga for Heart and
Cancer patients,
and beginning mat Pilates. I have taken workshops
in
Structural Yoga Therapy, Yoga for
Healing, Self-Awakening Yoga, Yoga and
Propreoceptive Writing.
I have an interest in how yoga can improve the
quality
of our lives so I can address the particular
needs of
my students to
make the yoga classes beneficial
and enjoyable. Come and see what yoga
can do for
you!

would like to share this ancient
knowledge to her community.

“This is all there is. Here.
Right here and now.
Rest on the waves of breath
and choose to experience all of it…..”
(Kripalu Center for Yoga and Health)
My yoga practice began just 5 years ago,
and
it
has since become a central part of
my life.
I
completed
my yoga teacher
training at the
Joschi
Yoga Institute
in New
York City. There I learned a creative
style of
Vinyasa flow that
combined
yoga
with
elements
of dance. My practice continues to grow
through
self-study,
workshops and
teacher
trainings,
most recently at Kripalu. In addition
to my love
for the
energetic
flow and “music”
of
Vinyasa,
I am also committed to offering a
more accessible
yoga.
I
am certified as a chair yoga teacher and have completed the Yoga for Seniors Teacher Training
at
Kripalu, taught by Carol Krucoff and Kimberly Carson (Duke University Center for Integrative
Medicine).
In my
own practice, my intention is to continue to explore the many connections
between yoga and everyday life, while deepening my awareness of the body in motion and in
stillness. In my teaching
my intention
is to share this exploration in an environment that is
creative, supportive, safe
and
inclusive. |

Kara studies yoga primarily under the teachings
of
Yoganand Michael Carroll and Paul Grilley.

and Kripalu traditions, blending
yoga
teaching with
the studies of Ayurvedic and Taoist
Medicine. Her background in biology, environmental science
and wilderness exploration strongly
influence her
teaching and
interpretation of yoga.
Kara began practicing yoga in 1998 and
started

I have been working in the healing arts field since
1996, after
experiencing profound relief from some
long-term personal
health issues through massage therapy and various types of
energy work. My professional work is influenced by many
teachers,
some of whom I’ve met in person, others whose
teachings have come to me through their students
or their
writings. I feel deeply blessed to be able to
share what I have
learned to help others be happy
and healthy. I am a certified
and state-licensed
massage therapist, and certified polarity
therapist
and yoga teacher with over 1000 hours of certified
training and many more hours of independent study.
I am a
graduate of the Polarity Realization Institute
(now Spa Tech) in
Ipswich, Massachusetts. My
primary yoga teacher is Jill Satterfield
of Vajra
Yoga
in New York City and I am a certified Vajra
Yoga
teacher and Polarity Yoga teacher.
I have a B.A. in Political Science from the University of
Vermont,
am a state-certified Language Arts teacher in grades 7-12, a writer and poet. As a teacher,
I focus on awareness of the physical body,
and on the heart-mind in the body, using visualization
and
meditation techniques. Physical alignment is also important, in
order to open and strengthen
the channels through which the vital
life force flows, to calm the mind to sit in meditation, and to
avoid
injury. You do not have
to be “flexible” to begin a yoga practice –
all that is required is a desire
to engage in the practice of
inquiry
and discovery. |
